Abstract

In a centrifugal separator for freeing a liquid from solid particles suspended therein and being heavier than the liquid a rotor (2) is supported by a frame (1) in a way such that the rotor is rotatable around a vertical centre axis (4). The rotor surrounds a separation chamber (20), which has a substantially larger axial extension than a radial extension and contains both separation discs (21) and one or more sludge conveyor screws (29). The rotor that is journalled in the frame (1) at both its ends has an inlet (23-25) for said liquid and an outlet (28) for separated particles at its one end and an outlet (26,27) for cleaned liquid at its other end. The outlet (28) for separated particles is intermittently openable.
