Abstract
This is an original pneumatic tyre for winter conditions. The tread profile has both circumferential (3, 8) and transverse grooves, and its blocks are incised. The meridian (M-M) divides the tread into two halves. Each has a outer row of shoulder blocks, and two rows of more central blocks (4, 5). Blocks have fine, parallel, lamellar incisions, of which the central axes are straight. In a new design, the side circumferential grooves (8) consist of groove sections (8a) which are angled with respect to the meridian. The meridian groove (3) is similarly composed of angled sections (3a, 3b), however, their inclination is opposite to that of the side circumferential groove sections (8a). Preferably each shoulder groove section (8a) is inclined at an angle of 5-25 deg especially 10-20 deg , with respect to the meridian. The groove sections (3a, 3b) of the meridian subtend an angle ( psi ) of 165-178 deg especially 170 deg -175 deg with it. The fine incisions in blocks (5) adjacent to the shoulder blocks, make an angle 115-135 deg , especially 120-130 deg with the meridian.The fine incisions in blocks (4) adjacent to the meridian, make an angle 55-75 deg , especially 60-70? with the meridian. Blocks (4) adjacent to the meridian are separated by narrow incisions (6) from each other, and similarly by narrow incisions (7) from those (5) adjacent to the shoulders. These incisions have widths of 0.8-1.5 mm, especially about 1 mm, and their depth lies between 30-70%, especially about 50% of the design depth. Blocks adjacent to the meridian are roughly trapezoidal in plan, those adjacent the shoulders are roughly rhombic. The maximum dimensions of the latter are 1.5-2 those of the former.
