Abstract
A sound-absorbing enclosure 26 for an engine 10 and transmission 12 is provided with movable flaps 34 (and 44, 46 Fig. 3) which open in response to temperature or a related parameter to allow a greater flow of air through a fan 24 and so increase cooling. The flaps may be controlled by the temperature of the engine coolant, engine oil or the air in the enclosure or may be controlled in response to the power output of the engine. The flaps may be positioned to allow an increased airflow through most of the enclosure (Fig. 5).
