Abstract

A method for the separation of solid and/or liquid material from a gas stream comprises passing the gas through a separation device that removes contaminants and consists of e.g. a cyclone (1), filter (6) or sedimentation chamber, or a combination of these. Separated material is supplied from the device to a collection vessel (7) at least partially comprising a flexible material such as synthetic film. The collection vessel is sack-shaped and comprises an essentially gas- or air-tight material such as plastic (preferably polyethylene). When stretched out or full the vessel consists of a (preferably cylindrical) top section with a large cross-sectional area, and an inlet opening (8) preferably shaped as a cylindrical or slightly conical tubular section positioned concentric or ex-central and joined (e.g. by welding the adjacent plastic layers together) to the vessel head section. For example, the inlet opening may be a flatted film tube of the type used to make sacking. The vessel is designed to have its inlet linked to the device outlet (5) by a gastight seal. Its inlet can also be sealed from the surrounding environment during or after it is removed from the device outlet, e.g. by tying the inlet with at least one cord, preferably formed by strip-shaped flaps extending outwards from the inlet. The length of the flaps allows them to be tied together once the vessel has been detached from the device outlet and they may even be long enough to be used to tie the vessel inlet around this outlet. Also claimed is the collection vessel itself, having a preferred inlet opening length of at least 2 (preferably 10) cm and preferably having at least one strip-shaped flap extending over the entire width of the vessel sheet into the opening. The vessel comprises a sheet material which does not collapse when a vacuum of at least 500 mm is applied inside.
