Abstract
The procedure for controlling the torque of an IC engine has a control unit which affects both the air admission and the ignition timing depending on a load demand signal. Before any load change, first adjustments of the intake air flow and ignition timing are made in the direction of reduced engine efficiency, while the engine torque remains constant. This is done by temporarily increasing the airflow and retarding the timing. With the load change, the ignition timing is changed to its output value. Instantaneous deviations of torque or speed are compensated for by control circuits.
