Abstract

The combustion of a drive charge (5) is controlled, preferably in a cannon (1), for the purpose of achieving a higher firing speed in a projectile accelerated by the gunpowder gases formed on combustion. The drive charge is radiated with electromagnetic high effect radiation from one or more radiation sources (6) whilst the drive charge is burning. The radiation source can be a high effect laser and/or a microwave generator. Radiation can be made from several different directions in the cannon combustion chamber or, particularly for a following charge, in different positions along the cannon barrel (2).
