Abstract

A silencer for large-calibre weapons is arranged separate from the weapon barrel but positioned adjacent the muzzle and comprises a tubular hollow body into which the muzzle partially projects through a front face wall (16). The silencer (1) has modules (2, 3, 4), each comprising a housing (5, 6, 7) which contains elements (29, 31, 34, 35) which dampen the sound either solely by resonance (resonator module), reflection (reflector module) or absorption (absorption module). The construction allows the silencer parameters with respect to sound radiation to be controlled and adjusted by different arrangements of resonance, reflection and absorption modules. This enables special properties of different weapon systems and special requirements regarding the sound emission to be taken into account. <IMAGE>
