Abstract
The casing is provided with components for feed of electrolyte to the reaction chamber for maintaining electro-chemical reactions which occur in the electro-chemical active structure. Components are also provided for the removal of reaction products formed inside the reaction chamber to a location at a distance from the electrode. The casing is wholly or partly produced from a semi-permeable membrane, a diaphragm, or an ion-selective membrane, or the casing has the capacity to prevent electrolyte from the environment around it being mixed with that within it, but also has the ability to conduct galvanically through its walls. Components are incorporated for the feed of one or more reagents selected to react further with reaction products formed during the electro-chemical processes in the active structure.
