Abstract

Safety and monitoring system in a mountable and dismountable work platform system (1) having at least one vertical mast (2) built up from sections and a central member (8) drivable along the mast, and including at least one gear for engaging a vertical tooth rack (4) disposed on the mast. The central member (8) is connected to platform sections (16) provided on both sides of the mast (2). Each platform section comprises a platform floor resting on two parallel upper beams (20) provided in a horizontal plane, which are connected to each other and to a lower beam (18) by means of struts to form a rigid lattice. Each beam end comprises a coupling part for cooperation with a corresponding coupling part provided on the central portion (8) or on another platform section (16). At each coupling part of the central portion (8) a load cell (40, 42, 44) is provided, the two upper load cells (40, 42) sensing vertical forces and the lower load cell (44) sensing a horizontal force. The signals from the load cells disposed on both sides of the mast (2) are supplied to a processing unit, which continuously calculate one or more critical load parameters from the obtained values and compares the parameter values with predetermined values. Depending on whether the parameters exceed a permitted limit, the processing unit is disposed to indicate that the limit value has been reached and/or stop the drive of the system.
