Abstract

A spring (38) between the sleeve (23) and tube (30) preloads the withdrawal bearing (11) when in use via the driving member (31). The tube contains a recess working with the driving member to hold the sleeve in position for assembly in opposition to the spring, preventing it retracting during the operation. The member can comprise rollers working in radial bores in the sleeve and thrusting a wire ring outwards against the withdrawal bearing during assembly to lock it. The shape of the recess and the pressure exerted by the ring on the rollers are so matched to the axial force of the spring that the sleeve is held in a predetermined position during assembly. ADVANTAGE - Allows use of pre-loaded withdrawal bearing with servo-operated clutch pulled out of engagement.
