An internally cooled roll, of the type used in a continuous casting plant, such as support and guide rolls, having a shell which is attached to and surrounds a core of iron material. To obtain a dimensionally stable roll with internal cooling an high heat conductivity which at the same time is of simple construction, the shell of the roll is composed of copper or a copper alloy.
