Abstract

An apparatus for steering a wheel-mounted vehicle comprises a conventional steering system with a normal steering wheel 1 which is operated by the driver and which is hydraulically connected via a valve unit 2 to a manoeuvring device for hydraulic actuation and thus steering of the wheels as a function of the steering wheel movements. The apparatus additionally has a complementary steering system 5-9 which is coupled-in parallel to the conventional steering system and which comprises a manually operated wheel 5 which, as a function of its turning movements, sends control signals via a control unit 7-9 to a valve arrangement which is hydraulically connected to the manoeuvring device. The two steering systems 1-3; 5-9 can each be independently activated for steering the vehicle. When the driver uses the complementary steering system 5-9, he/she can adopt an ergonomically correct sitting position, and the turning movements for steering can be executed easily and comfortably with little strain on the driver's arms, shoulders or back. <IMAGE>
