Abstract

The invention relates to a method of determining the coefficients of a transversal equalizer used in the receiver of a data communication system by sending a known periodic data sequence (training sequence) over the communication channel, by calculating the discrete Fourier transform C(k) of the equalizer by means of the received data sequence either directly or through the discrete Fourier transform U(k) of the channel, and by calculating the coefficients of the equalizer by an inverse discrete Fourier transform from said discrete Fourier transform C(k) of the equalizer. In order that the coefficients could be calculated by means of a shorter training sequence, the method is characterized in that the number of the spectral components of the discrete Fourier transform of the equalizer or the channel is increased by interpolating intermediate components between the original spectral components before said calculation of the inverse discrete Fourier transform. <IMAGE>
