Abstract

A unit for separating solid components from an air current comprises a container 6 having at least one inlet 7 and one outlet 8, of which the former emerges in the container in a lower chamber 10 which is separated by a partition 9 from an upper chamber 11 in which the outlet emerges. An air current is admitted to the lower chamber 10 to allow accompanying solid components to drop down under their own weight into the bottom of the container, after which the air current is evacuated to the upper chamber 11 through one or more gaps 12,12' between the partition 9 and the rest of the container. In the upper chamber, between the said gaps 12,12 and the outlet 8, a number of filter tubes 14,14' are fitted, through which the air current during normal running passes in the outbound and inbound direction, depositing on the outside of the tube fine components entrained in the air. The air flow direction through the tubes can, where necessary, be temporarily reversed for the purpose of cleaning the tubes, whereupon the components removed from the tube through the reversal of the air flow direction are able to drop down into the bottom of the container 6 through the said gaps 12,12'. <IMAGE>
