Abstract
Altitude control is provided for low-flying carriers, such as missiles or submunition pods, that have flight guidance systems and inertial navigation systems (INS). A laser ranger type of laser altimeter (LHM 1) typically of AM/CW-type can be employed alone or in conjunction with a forward-looking laser altimeter (LHM 2) to cope with fog effects, including artificial fog. Signal processing means (SVA) serves to control contribution of laser altimeter(s) to flight control, and leaving control to the inertial navigation system (INS) for dense/artificial fog. <IMAGE>
