Abstract

The present invention relates to an effective and reliable transport system 1 intended for rail transport, which comprises load carriers 4-4n suitable for the reception of an intended load, ground-bound vehicles arranged for transport of the said load carriers, rail- bound vehicles 3 which are formed by a plurality of trucks 72,7n coupled together in a row, which can be run on designated tracks 6, and means for enabling load carriers to be transferred between the said vehicles. According to the invention, loading bays 102,10n are arranged along a designated track 6 at a mutual distance apart X and are arranged for the placement of load carriers 42,4n extending transversely across and along the track 6. The rail-bound vehicle trucks 72,7n have lifting gear for enabling load carriers which can be placed on the said designated loading bays to be hoisted between a lowered position on the loading bays and a raised position on the rail vehicle trucks. The said vehicle trucks 72,7n and the load carriers 42,4n are also mutually co-ordinated such that trucks in lowered position are enabled to pass in below and through load carriers placed on the loading bays and such that positions of the rail vehicle trucks viewed along the track 6 correspond to the positions for the said loading bays. <IMAGE>
