Abstract
The dosing of a flowable substance is effected in a system of branched pipes, wherein an inlet branch (1) leads to a juncture (2) which connects to two or more extension branches (3,4). The substance to be dosed is allowed to flow past the juncture into one of the extensions (3), where the flow is stopped. The fraction of substance which has entered the extension branch is separated from the fraction remaining in the inlet branch by letting an auxiliary substance immiscible with the substance to be dosed flow in through one of said branches (3) and a second extension branch (4) in such manner that one of the fractions (15) is carried away by the flow of the auxiliary substance. The two fractions are separated by a boundary surface created by surface tension at the juncture of the pipe branches. The precision of dosage achieved by the fact that a boundary surface can be repeatedly produced at the same place. The invention is suited for wet chemical analyses in which the substance to be dosed is a fluid, generally a water solution, and the auxiliary substance may be a gas e.g. air, or another fluid immiscible with water. <IMAGE>
