Abstract

The lines acting as screens (8,9,10) are suspended outside each phase line (R,S,T), and connected into a circuit so that the magnetic field from currents induced into them counteracts the magnetic field from the currents in the phase lines. Capacitors are provided to act on the amplitude and phase of the screen line currents to increase the compensating effect in their magnetic field on that of the phase lines. The screen line suspension is such that they form the corner points of an equilateral triangle, and the screen line (10) located beneath the lowest phase linem (T) is inserted in the ground. Connected to each screen line is a voltage source which drives a current through the line which, together with the induction current flowing :, forms a resultant current providing the required compensated magnetic field. A monitor is provided for the power line magnetic field, and controls for regulating the voltage sources.
