Abstract

A gas conduit (5) connects to the container (2), and fluid fills the space between the container outer walls (11) and those of the cavity (1). The fluid (10, 14) is maintained under pressure, which is regulated dependent upon the gas pressure in the container. To form the gas store, the container (2) is filled with water via the gas conduit (5) at the same time as the underground cavity (1) around the container (2) is filled with fluid (10) which has a sealing function on the cavity walls (12). Pressure in the container and in the cavity is allowed to rise at the same rate to a required max. level. The cavity and container are then evacuated under regulated lowering of pressure, and then gas is pumped into the container, whilst simultaneously fluid (14) is pumped into the cavity around the container with regulated pressure increase to prevent the container being subjected to a one-sided pressure load.
