Abstract

A new wear steel for road repair cutting blades contains 0.39-0.45 wt.% C, less than 0.22 wt.% Cr, 0.001-0.006 wt.% B, 0.15-0.35 wt.% Si, 1.3-1.5% Mn, 0.02-0.05 wt.% Ti, and partic 0.15-0.30 wt.% Cu, and by heating to 870-930 deg.C and oil quenching is hardened to over 550 HB. The resulting blades are mainly martensitic at the surface with a tougher and softer core of low temp bainite and martensite.
