Abstract

An arrangement for pumping liquids comprises a pump chamber 21 which is arranged so as to receive a part quantity of the liquid to be pumped. The pump chamber is provided with members for cyclical variation of the pressure in the pump chamber between an overpressure and an underpressure in relation to the pressure in the chamber 17 where the main quantity of the liquid is situated. The pump chamber 21 is also provided with an infeed opening 22 and an outfeed opening 23. The infeed opening 22 has a considerably lower flow resistance in the direction into the pump chamber 21 than in the opposite direction, and the outfeed opening 23 has a considerably lower flow resistance in the direction out of the pump chamber than in the opposite direction, so that, when underpressure prevails in the pump chamber, a greater quantity of liquid is sucked into the pump chamber through the infeed opening 22 than through the outfeed opening 23 and, when overpressure prevails in the pump chamber, a great quantity of liquid is pressed out through the outfeed opening 23 than through the infeed opening 22. In this way, a net quantity of liquid can be sucked in through the infeed opening and pressed out through the outfeed opening. The arrangement makes is possible to pump many types of liquid without using movable valves. <IMAGE>
