Abstract

A meshing screw pump is provided with idler screws (2, 3) and a drive screw (4) for pumping fluid from a suction chamber (6) to a pressure chamber (7). A scavenging fluid circulates through a passage (22), a compensating tank (23), a line (24) and a chamber (16). A thrust-balancing piston (11) is provided between the pressure chamber (7) and the chamber (16). The balance piston (11) is encircled by a throttle gap (13) and an annular chamber (14). The latter is connected by a line (15) to the suction chamber (6); and thus fluid from the pressure chamber (7) rising in the throttle gap (13), rather than entering the chamber (16), returns to the suction chamber (6) via the annular chamber (14) and line (15) and moreover, the fluid being pumped, which may be hot oil, does not contact a seal (17). <IMAGE>
