Abstract

Gases are brought into contact with manganese oxide to form manganese sulphide. An oxidising gas isused to regenerate the manganese oxide and liberate sulphur components. The valuable sulphur components are removed in concentrated form. Steps (a) & (b) are carried out at an excess pressure of at least one bar and at elevated temperature. It is a dry process. Pref. the temperature is 400-1100 deg.C. The manganese oxide is supported on a fire resistant material to form a fluidised bed. The pressure is at the most 25 bar.
