Abstract

Screw presses, especially for removing water from fibrous masses. The press comprises a screw (7) the helical feeding wing (9) of which has a high pitch tending to generate a pressure gradient in the circumferential direction of the annular outlet gap (14) defined between a portion (6a) of a press cylinder wall (6) and a pressure reaction member (15-17). The invention solves the problem caused by that gradient by providing a reaction member comprising resilient means (17) permitting the upstream part (15) of said member to yield in the maximum pressure sector thus reducing the pressure difference.
