Abstract

In this device comprising an electrical converter used for altering the working voltage, the thermoelectric device consists of n and p type semiconductors connected electrically in series and connected thermally in parallel, while the converter consists essentially of a transformer and of a section forming a rectifier and comprising a smoothing device, the converter components, of known constitution, are designed for a DC current which is constant but significantly greater than the current obtained for the voltage from the thermoelectric device, preferably a current that is greater by a factor of between 2 and 10, and the cross-section of the semiconductors in the thermoelectric device is determined by the converter current and the number of semiconductors is determined by the required cooling power.
