Abstract

The invention relates to a process for producing coating materials having a finishing effect based on papers impregnated with unsaturated polyester resins, by the cold-curing process. The aim is the cost-effective production of coating materials of furniture quality by a process permitting the use even of low absorbency papers. The object consisted in meeting these quality requirements whilst maintaining the principle of peroxidic cold curing, on the one hand reducing the amount of resin incorporated and on the other hand ensuring the releasability of the rolled-up film or of the laminate. According to the invention a film-forming layer of a coating which, in the cured state, has a releasing effect with respect to unsaturated polyester resins is applied onto the topside of a paper web and cured, subsequently the web is impregnated from the reverse side with a styrenic solution of an unsaturated polyester resin. The web is then wound up alone or with a second impregnated web, in a known manner, and cured without external heat supply. The invention is applicable in the production of decorative foils and narrow sheet-like bands for the furniture industry.
