Abstract
A vehicle wheel suspension system for cross-country vehicles, consists of a wheel (1) mounted on a control arm (2) connected to a torsion bar (4). The torsion bar (4) can be rotated by means of a hydropneumatic piston-cylinder unit (10) to raise and lower the wheel, to change the vehicle level, for example for travelling over rough terrain. The unit (10) additionally operates as a spring when the vehicle is raised, to modify the springing characteristics from the linear characteristic normally presented by the torsion bar (4). <IMAGE>
