Abstract

Dynamic dust separators for internal combustion engines make use of the centrifugal force of the impeller to separate unwanted particles from the incoming air. The proposed system uses recirculation of the air to the induction system with consequent high acceleration, whereby particles are separated from the air stream. The function of the flywheel in this device is however not to create centrifugal force but to carry away the particles separated by the recirculation. This invention is based therefore on a principle of drawing in air through a port tangentially and radically inwards from the fan housing (15), and this principle has the advantage that risk of contamination during fuelling etc, plus unwanted heating of the air is minimized, while its construction is simple.<IMAGE>
