Abstract

An apparatus for drying compressed air operating according to the principle of the two-vessel air dryer is described, having two air dryers (14, 15) operating alternately in intervals in the drying phase and regeneration phase and having a throttle valve (26) for impinging the particular air dryer (15 or 14) in the regeneration phase with a part-stream of air taken from the outlet of the air dryer (14 or 15) operating in the drying phase, in which apparatus, for the purpose of achieving optimal regeneration with regard to compressed air consumption and efficiency, the throttle valve (26) has a constriction which is adjustable depending on the overall air flow rate. The adjustable constriction in this case is designed in such a manner that the ratio of the overall air flow rate through one air dryer (14 or 15) during the drying phase to that of the part-stream of air branched off from this by the throttle valve (26) remains essentially constant and is preferably 100:15 (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
