Abstract
The compressor includes a housing having a fluid inlet port 36 and an outlet port 37. A fixed scroll 27 has a circular end plate 271 from which a first wrap 272 extends. The end plate 271 partitions the inner chamber of the housing into a front chamber 29 connected to the fluid inlet port 36 and a rear chamber 30. The rear chamber is divided into a central chamber 301 connected to the fluid outlet port 37 and an outer chamber 302. An orbiting scroll 28 has a circular end plate 281 from which a second wrap 282 extends. Both wraps interfit to define at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets therebetween. The end plate 271 has at least two holes 275,276 which are placed at symmetrical positions and connect the fluid pockets to the outer chamber 302. The end plate 271 also has a hole 40 which connects the front chamber 29 with the outer chamber 302. Valve members 39 are provided for each hole 275,276. Control means 41 selectively opens the hole 40 to connect the inlet (suction) side of the compressor with the chamber 302 and thereby with the fluid pockets via holes 275,276. <IMAGE>
