Abstract

The invention relates to a seal in sleeve form for installation between a shaft and a cylindrical surface, for example between an axle and the hub of a vehicle wheel. The seal comprises an annular housing made of metal, which is formed by an outer ring (7) and an inner ring (11), and a seal element with a reinforcement (17), the profile of which forms an annular inner chamber (30) and an outer annular chamber (31) in the cavity of the housing. The inner chamber (30) communicates with one of the end faces of the housing via a passage (16) formed between an axial inner wall (8) of the outer ring and an axial wall (13) of the inner ring. The outer chamber (31) is separated from the inner chamber by at least one sealing lip (23, 24) of the seal element, the said lip pressing against the axial inner wall of the outer ring. The outer chamber (31) is separated from the opposite end face of the housing by at least one sealing lip (27, 28) of the seal element, the said lip pressing against the outer axial wall (9) of the outer ring. <IMAGE>
