Abstract
The brake is for the pivot arm of a tower crane whose swinging movement is activated by a motor engaging a drive via a gearbox and a slip coupling, causing the arm to pivot around a vertical axis. The gear has an input shaft connected to a holding brake which assumes its braking position automatically when the motor over runs, and an output shaft. One or the other of the shafts is connected to a brake component activated by a manoeuvring component via a transmission, the manoeuvring component being controlled by the driver.
