Abstract

The invention relates to the increase in the compressive strength of mineral wool products perpendicular to the product plane by perpendicular fibre orientation. It is aimed at loss-free, fully automatic production of products containing fibres oriented perpendicular to the product plane. In contrast to known, very complex processes of subsequent lamination of products produced in the main production plants, the uncured raw fibre nonwoven is, according to the invention, precompacted as early as between the fibre settling chamber and the polymerisation chamber, divided into strips without cutting, rotated mechanically through 90 DEG and recombined continuously, in the same operation, to give a continuous fibre nonwoven. The surface of the mineral wool nonwoven leaving the fibre settling chamber can optionally be wetted by means of an additional binder film, which generates additional strength in the end product after the lamination operation. By means of this process, integrated into the production process of mineral wool plants, it becomes possible to apply lamination not only in the case of products having high requirements vis a vis compressive strength, but also in the case of other products, whose density can then be reduced while the strength values are retained.
