Abstract

A valve (12) is cyclically actuated via a cam (1) a cam follower (2) and transmission means (3, 4, 6, 7, 13). Apparatus is provided for adjusting the transmission means to vary the effect of the cam (1) on the valve (12) so as to facilitate starting. This apparatus comprises essentially an additional cam (23) rotating uniformly with the actuating cam (1) to actuate a double-acting piston (24) whereby control fluid is forced into a cylinder (17) to move a fulcrum (14) of a rocker-arm (13). <IMAGE>
