Abstract

The invention concerns a device designed for use in an internal combustion engine's exhaust system to produce a spark extinguishing effect and prevent heated particles from leaving the exhaust system. The device principally involves a closed container (1) with an inlet arrangement (3) at one end and an outlet arrangement (9) at the other end. The main aspect of the invention is that the spark extinguisher (1) contains units (6, 7) which deflect incoming exhaust, and any heated particles that stream through the container (1), into an axial, spiral-formed path during which solid particles are broken up and/or burned up.<IMAGE>
