Abstract

Printed matter is produced by printing onto absorbent, low quality paper, and then to prevent the ink pigments which are left on the surface of the paper after the liquid components have been absorbed into the paper from being rubbed off, a fluid, transparent solvent containing a binding agent is applied to the printed surface to bind the pigments of the ink onto the paper. The binding agent may be a synthetic resin such as an alkyd resin. The same solvents and binding agents may be used as are contained in the ink used for the printing. In a printing machine adapted to produce such printed matter, a coating device is situated sufficiently far downstream of the printing unit to ensure that the ink is dry by the time it reaches this coating device.
