Abstract

This device for the separation of a mixture of at least two small components in which one is of a smaller density than the other is designed as a cleaning device for berries. The apparatus comprises a first chamber (1) for receiving uncleaned berries and a second chamber (2) that is connected to the first through an inlet orifice (8) with a limited area. The first chamber has a concave or in principle flat bottom (3). The second chamber (2) has a first bottom section (7) that continues the bottom (3) of the first chamber (1) and limits the inlet orifice (8) downward and a second bottom section (12) that is at a higher level than the first bottom section (7) from which it is separated by an inlet orifice (13) for cleaned berries. Above the second bottom section (12) at an even higher level, the second chamber (2) has an outlet (14) for the lighter mixture component. The outlet (14) is designed to be connected to a vacuum or other suction source. The path from chamber one's bottom to the air outlet (14) is thus curved. Because of this shape and the high speed the berries obtain when passing through the orifice (8), they continue straight along the bottom section (7), while lighter leaves and the like follow the airflow out through the air outlet (14).<IMAGE>
