Abstract

Pulverized solid fuel is burned in a multi-fuel burner comprising an oil burner 3 and/or gas burner 5 designed to establish a flame with a turbulent root. The pulverized solid fuel is directed into the side of the flame just downstream of the flame root through a convergent nozzle 12. This provides rapid mixing and complete combustion of the pulverized solid fuel and enables gas and liquid fuel burners to be easily converted for burning pulverized solid fuel. Figure 1. <IMAGE>
