Abstract

Halogenated conjugated diene-monoalkenyl or mono(haloalkenyl) aromatic alkyl halide copolymer latexes provide adhesive systems which afford adhesive strengths comparable to commercial solvent-based adhesives in bonding natural and synthetic elastomers to rigid and non-rigid substrates. Adhesives prepared from such latexes exhibit excellent preheat tolerance and environmental resistance. The latexes are prepared by copolymerising the appropriate monomers in an aqueous system containing an anionic surfactant and, optionally, a nonionic surfactant. The latexes may also include an aromatic nitroso compound and an auxiliary film-forming material.
