Abstract

Method for production of a filter structure, especially intended for cigarette filters, from a fibre mass containing a homogenous mixture of different kinds of fibres. Some of the fibres must have meltable synthetic fibres with a low melting point and adhesive qualities in the melted state, and the other fibres are absorbent with regards to harmful products in tobacco smoke and stable at melting temperatures for the meltable fibres. The fibrous mixture is formed to a cylindrical rod, which is in a state where it is not yet attached but is homogenous and includes a fibre network, which is tightly integrated. The method according to the invention is that a large percentage of the meltable fibres are used relative to the absorbent fibres. The fibrous mixture is brought to a temperature, which leaves the absorbent fibres intact, but which is high enough to melt and fluidize all meltable material which originally exists in fibre form, which are converted to fine drops, distributed within the network of absorbing fibres. This conversation creates on the one hand multiple connections are cross-points for the absorbent fibres, which are still intact, and on the other hand a network of pores, which are connected to each other in all directions and which are formed of those areas, which are left empty when melting of the meltable fibres occurs. This process is especially applicable in production of filter structures for cigarette filters.
