Abstract

The ultrasound converter, which is pressure-proof, hot water resistant and insensitive to temperature changes, consists of a converter housing (1), an oscillating element (2) with a piezo disc (3), electrodes (4; 6), and a power cable (7). In the space between the floor of the housing (5) and the rear electrode (6) is an ultrasound-insulating medium, preferably a synthetic foam. The oscillating element (2) rests on a shoulder (13) of the converter housing (1), and is axially rigid and radially movable. Its outer surface is distanced from the converter housing (1), and it is sealed against the converter housing (1), and held elastically, by an elastic seal (14). Openings (16), which are permeable to water vapour, are arranged in the housing floor (5). The front electrode (4) extends to the rear face of the piezo disc (3). A plastic film or an O-ring can be used as the elastic seal (14). If the ultrasound converter is used to measure the flow rate in a pipe, the diameter of the piezo disc (3) is greater than the internal diameter of the pipe. <IMAGE>
