Abstract

A process for preparing the therapeutically valuable compound 1-isopropylamino-3-(4-(2-methoxyethyl)phenoxy)-2- propanol consists in a compound of the formula <IMAGE> where X is a reactive ester radical, being reacted with an isopropylamine acid addition salt to give a compound of the formula <IMAGE> where X has the same meaning as above, after which this compound is reacted with an alkali metal methoxide or with methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst. The reactive ester radical X is stated, by way of example, to be tosyloxy or halogen, in which case the compounds IV and V, respectively, are previously unknown.
