Abstract

An electrical connector block for interconnecting two pluralities of wires fanned along the two opposite edges thereof has an elongate layered structure of three elements, viz a flat insulating centre element (10) for supporting two staggered rows of flat, slotted electrical connectors (20), one on each surface thereof, and an insulating cover element (11) secured to each side of the centre element (10) for positively retaining the connectors in place. The center element has transversal slots (17) in both of the opposite edges aligned with slots in the connectors (20) for guiding and retaining wires to be inserted into the slots of the connectors (20) for establishing electrical contact therewith. A tool for inserting the wire into the connector block and severing the wire after insertion includes a tool head which is retracted against spring bias during insertion of the wire by the tool head. When the tool head is returned to its normal position by the spring, a cutting blade is pivoted by a cam to sever the wire. <IMAGE>
