Abstract

A device for controlling the speed of a motor vehicle has an accelerator pedal 10 operated by the driver of the vehicle to act on a position signal source 9 producing a signal dependent on the position of the pedal 10. This is supplied by a damping circuit 11 to a controller 1 which controls an injection pump 16 which regulates the rate of fuel supply to the engine of the vehicle. The position of the injection pump 16 produces a signal via a datum signal source 8 which is compared with the input to the controller 1 to produce a signal to which is fed back to an adjustment means 6 to control the injection pump 16. The damping circuit 11 is designed to pass large voltage signals unchanged but to impose an averaging effect on small voltage fluctuations and comprises a resistor which is shunted by a voltage dependent resistor and supplies a capacitor. The embodiment described shows parallel connected back to back diodes forming the voltage dependent resistor. This suppresses any uneven acceleration or deceleration due to accidental movement of the accelerator pedal 10 caused by the soft suspension of the engine. <IMAGE>
