Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of extremely hard composite materials, and especially to a process for the preparation of polycrystalline boron nitride. In this process, a reaction mixture is first prepared from boron nitride and high-melting materials such as for example titanium nitride or titanium carbonitride, and this reaction mixture is subjected to high pressure and high temperature. The high-melting material must have a particle size of 50-1000 Angstroms. The invention can be used for making tools for the processing of alloys that are difficult to machine and work.
