Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a fibre-free material from peat-based fibrous material. In this process, the fibres of the peat material are exposed and converted into a suspension of peat material, which is subjected to at least one sorting operation. To obtain a high yield of usable material according to the invention, the fibre-free suspension obtained by the removal of fibres from the suspension of peat material is subjected to a separation process in which the organic material remaining in the suspension after the removal of the fibres is separated off from the fibre-free suspension. This organic material may be present e.g. in the colloidal form or as particles measuring less than 0.2 mm. The dry-matter content of the organic material isolated by the separation process is then increased by dehydration.
