Abstract

Schiff's bases of the formula I <IMAGE> in which R is hydrogen or lower alkyl are obtained by reacting piperonal with p-aminobenzoic acid or with a p-aminobenzoic ester. 4-(1,3-Benzodioxol-5-ylmethylamino)benzoic acid and 4-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-ylmethylamino)benzoic esters of the formula II <IMAGE> in which R is hydrogen or lower alkyl are obtained by reducing Schiff's bases of the formula I. The compound 4-(1,3-benzodioxol-5-ylmethylamino)benzoic acid which can be prepared according to the invention can be used, for example, for the reduction of the lipid level in the plasma of animals.
