1535580 Making aluminium paste ECKARTWERKE STANDARD BRONZEPULVERWERKE CARL ECKART 20 Dec 1976 [20 Dec 1975] 53154/76 Heading B3A [Also in Division C1] A method of making a water-dispersible aluminium paste comprises grinding aluminium in an organic grinding liquid, such as white spirit, using a grinding auxiliary, such as stearic acid, to form a hydrophobic, inhibiting protective film on the metal particles, and, after the grinding process, removing substantially all of the grinding liquid and replacing it with water to form a paste. The grinding liquid is removed by squeezing on a filter press and/or by evaporation. When the paste comes to be used, the hydrophobic protective coating on the particles is removed chemically, for instance, during the manufacture of foamed concrete, the paste will be contacted by an alkaline medium which saponifies the stearic acid or about 3 wt. per cent of an emulsifier is added together with the water.
