Abstract
The absorption body has a core (16) and a covering (18) adhering thereto. The core consists of zirconium or a zirconium alloy. The covering consists of nickel or a nickel alloy. To produce the absorption body, a core body with the desired geometrical shape is first of all formed. Then all exposed surfaces of the core body are cleaned and covered with the covering. Then the absorption body is heated in vacuo at a temperature of 775 to 825 DEG C for 3 to 24 hours. The absorption body can be used in a fuel rod for core reactors having a) a tubular fuel rod cladding sealed in a gas-tight manner, b) a multiplicity of fuel pellets enclosed in the fuel rod cladding and c) in addition a hollow space formed in the fuel rod cladding. The absorption body is arranged in the hollow space. <IMAGE>
