1485605 Electrolytic regeneration of spent etching solution VI KUCHERENKO VN FLEROV GV KOROLEV EP KOTOV AM PRAPOROV GA BATOVA GL MELIKOVA and AI KOLOMEICHUK 17 March 1976 [17 March 1975 6 May 1975] 10781/76 Heading C7B Spent etching solution, e.g. used in obtaining printed-circuit patterns on Cu boards, containing in g.mol/l: 0À7-1À28 FeCl 3 , 0À30-0À45 FeCl 2 , 0À98- 1À5 CuCl 2 , 1À1-2À0 alkali metal Cl and 0À2-0À8 HCl, is regenerated by subjecting it to electrolysis with Cu being deposited at the cathode, and Fe<SP>++</SP> being oxidized to Fe<SP>+++</SP> and Cl 2 being liberated at the anode, the Cl 2 being used for additional oxidation of Fe<SP>++</SP> to Fe<SP>+++</SP>, to obtain an etching solution containing in g.mol/l: 0À9-1À4 FeCl 3 , 0À12-0À2 FeCl 2 , 0À9-1À4 CuCl 2 , 1À1-2À0 alkali metal Cl and 0À2-0À8 HCl. Preferably the etching solution is delivered to the anode in countercurrent to the Cl 2 liberated and at a linear speed at least 1À5 greater than that at which the solution is delivered to the cathode. The C.D. may be 8 to 20 A/dm<SP>2</SP>.
